Time For A Change

I am closing Real Diva Designs. Life has changed and things move forward. I have taken my art in a direction and feel it's time to start new. I am excited for the change and the new things I have been doing. A fresh start for everything and lets not dwell on the past.

My new company name is "Bohemian Chic" and a new blog with a new look will follow along in my adventure. I am inspired by all my trips to Europe and my desire to recreate what I saw and experienced with a bit of my own twist. So join in the fun as I take you along on my dumpster diving and treasure seeking...all for the love of art.

I Love Vignettes!

Playing with Lace

Vintage Dummy

Absent Poster

Hi there..I havn't been around alot. Lifes been pretty crazy. I am painting walls and trying to catch up on all the work I am behind in. I did just finish a few little tables and will post the odd thing for clients. I am leaving again for a few weeks..off to soak in the cultures of Europe and come back even more inspired. I have had a huge year..we finally finished the big court case and the house reno's are all done, my best friend was in a horrible car accident. She is slowly on the mend and I finally feel free to just go out and enjoy life again. It's been along 5 years but it's in the past now. It's finally time for me to go off and have an adventure....wonder what kind of trouble I can still get in to. Here just a few photos of clients pieces

A New Coat of Paint

Time to re-invent yourself and start new. Take what you have and move it
around, change how it looks.

I have been doing just that. I have been putting on a fresh coat of paint and taking the old and moving it around and adding new vignettes out of the things I already have. I love vignettes, tiny little collections of the things you treasure most. I love to surround my art with funky little displays. I feel they simply add to it. I am a big believer in living with what you love and putting it out for the world to see. It makes cuddling up with a good book and a great cup of tea all that better if you are surrounded by pretty little things. I love vintage and Parisian looking things and me being me..I will simply paint it to get the look I love. Paint hides a multitude of sins...but I like things that aren't perfect. Old warn and chipped..furniture that has a story. I am always on the hunt for old frames and weird metal pieces that I can add to my art..things that you can add a a bit of glam to and it changes the look. I also believe that if you look around your home and move things around..you can get a totally different look..your friends will be asking.."Oh when did you get this" and it's something you have had forever...it's the best therapy I know. It's just like playing. Now if we could do that with our lives and personal relationships..we would all be so much happier... Every day wake up with a new coat of paint.
This is the new wall color for my entrance..I haven't hung the pictures back up yet. I am putting together a collection of black frames with a collage of art and photos..I'll post some pics after it is finished.

Always The Bridesmaid

Once upon a time there was a happy little Bridesmaid. She purchased the appropriate attire for the early 90's wedding, a dress the bride had picked out to match the theme of her big day. She never complained about the cost of said dress or the additional funds for matching black velvet pumps... vowing that both were very practical items and felt privileged to be a witness for the now divorced couple. This was a no brain er, she felt the dress was something she would use on many occasions being that it was oh so stylish and ill fitting.

Feeling up for the task Bridesmaid did her job well. From embarrassing the bride with a surprise shower... complete with tacky tissue bells and customary paper plate and bow hat. At the wedding she was a smash, what with her speech alienating friends, and her oh so drunken dance off;... revealing more of her wobbly bits then necessary..she was a bridesmaid to remember. History in the making..many strive but fail to reach her level of expertise

After fulfilling her duties so well.. Bridesmaid hung said dress in her closet knowing that it wouldn't be long before she could wear the sexy little number again. Sadly the days flew by, soon days became years and the little dressed was lovingly carried to each new abode Bridesmaid lived in. Each new closet came with a renewed vow to unveil it again....the perfect occasion was just around the corner. What Bridesmaid failed to see was as she grew...the dress stayed the same....still not very stylish and not really something she would wear. Styles and fashion had changed, her love of wrapping her body in loud bright colors had stopped many years ago. This past time went out with teasing her hair and destroying the ozone with aerosol hair spray.....times they were a changing.

Now purging was a new art form Bridesmaid had mastered and soon that involved the cozy little closet that said dress resided in. It lay there in a heap...amongst the leg warmers and plastic hoop earrings pleading its case. Try as she might Bridesmaid felt guilty for breaking her vow and stripped off her sweats and struggled every inch of her over sized body into that dress. The dress felt tighter and shorter then she remembered. It bulged in some places and puckered in others. The zipper no longer met and the slit hardly gave off a peek a boo effect. The words "over stuffed sausage" danced in her brain.

Still Bridesmaid rallied...she felt certain with the strategically placed accessories this dress could be saved. Maybe with a slight alteration this is the kind of thing you could pop down to your local Starbucks with out feeling over dressed. A trip to the grocery store could become something special....perhaps attracting that much younger stock boy you have had your eye on. Doing the "bend and snap" in this dress would surly get you better service at your local Home Depot. The possibilities were endless.

Feeling better about things Bridesmaid notice her skin was turning a lovely shade of purple. Soon her breathing was becoming shallow and labored..the little dress was attacking her. All those years of neglect had come to a boiling point and the dress was angry and fighting back. Time was slipping away and with out a thought Bridesmaid grabbed the scissors and cut away her enemy. Relief flooded in...she felt victorious.

Staring down at the now lifeless dress, Bridesmaid wanted to mark this occasion. She scooped off the pearl and sequin broach that came with the dress and stuck it on a blank canvas. It looked lost on the huge white canvas so she grabbed some brushes and swirls of blue paint. She splattered and splashed and mucked about. As she worked she sang in tune to the radio feeling so free and happy. She had lived up to her vow ...she did use the dress again or parts of it....and now that badge of honor hangs on someone else's wall.
(broach was used for earring in this painting)

Wouldn't You Be Happy To Recieve This Email?

While snooping around on Facebook...I found a link to some one I think is an old school friend. The problem with women getting married and changing their last names is it makes it frustrating to find them if you don't know the new last name. So I sent this...of coarse I will change the names here to protect the innocent or not so in this case...plus in case she grew up to be a nun or is now running for senate I wouldn't want to cause problems for her....let me know how this sounds to you?

Did you used to be called "Jane Doe" and go out with a guy named "Dick"? Did you take a rather dangerous drive down "The Yellow Brick Road" in a souped up burgundy Camero with me and my (then) boyfriend "Prince Charming"? Did you then watch said boyfriend walk out in to the middle of the ocean very drunk while we screamed for him on the shore? Did you help me name said boyfriends wet jeans his "Sex Boots"after he staggered back in. Did you ever skip out of school so we could go on the Tilt A Whirl at the "Drunken fair"?....if you are not the above mentioned "Jane Doe" and never did any of those crazy teenage things quoted here, I am sorry to have bothered you. If you are...OH MY GOD..How The Hell Are You????

I think Its rather a fun surprise...I would love a email like that. Care to send me one?

Sure, Why Not

Don't Be Afraid To Sing Along, I Know You Want To.

Before playing this you need to turn off the videos on the right hand of the page.

Is This Thing On?...

I was thinking about my blog while dabbling in a sea of blue paint. I have neglected my little blog for awhile...feeling like no one was listening and who really cares if I wrote something.
Yes, I am painting again, albeit some what rusty, I am applying brush to canvas. Once more my friend creativity has reared her fickle head and allowed the paint gods to communicate with me. I was in such a state after the *B.T.E, (for those of you who don't know me personally I refer to my "Big Tragic Event" in the short form).....I just couldn't be bothered with painting, it was just another thing I had to take care of and with my plate being very full with grief, remorse, would haves, should haves, blah blah ..I could not be bothered.
I filled my time with procrastination, cultivating dust bunnies, and an insane amount of shopping. I took the time to learn about wine, beer, vodka and other liquor based fundamentals. I studied languages by watching scads of foreign films and I am proud to say I am now bilingual in various video stores around the city. During my sabbatical I refused to answer the phone, talking to people was the last thing I wanted to do. People annoyed me... and I often told the dog scandalous things I knew about the so called friend who dared to interrupt my grief. Who does she think she is...
But one day the sun shone....I didn't feel so sluggish and my road rage was well within limits. My consumption of alcohol was brought under control and waking up didn't seem such a chore. I wasn't sure what this sensation was but I felt...dare I say it content. I felt lighter then I had in a long time(which is surprising because grieving can make you gain weight) but now I wanted to get moving. I dusted off the easel, reused some old canvas and scrubbed some forgotten brushes clean..
I cranked up the old itunes and painted along to the music. It was incredible how great I felt. Yes, the painting was rough going...paint flying all over but I didn't care...I imagine this is what it feels like to fly. The canvas is coming to life before your eyes...and I did this. It can be a very powerful feeling. Perhaps it means little to you, but life can rob you of joy and no one can take this moment away from me. I am happy and at peace for this moment. It's a little like sex...you are very in tune with your body, you have reached the peak...all systems are go...its very freeing.
She came to life and I felt like talking. We had a great conversation about what to have for dinner, the latest book I was reading or general juicy gossip . Her all knowing understanding silence was a commanding audience. I get very attached to my girls until it's time for them to move on. She posed for the camera, I toasted her with a glass of Merlot, and for the first time in along while I felt like sharing it with you.
Ciao
(* my BTE was one of my children was in a horrible car accident that left my child permanently changed for life. I lost the person they were that day and they will never have the bright future they so deserved. This happened right after the twentieth birthday as they were taking their own steps out in to this world. Grieving happens to a parent even if if they survived. A right frontal brain injury changed my child's future(through no fault of their own) and the family dynamics deteriorated. We all grief in our own ways and on our own time..this is my journey)

Winter Blahs

January has come and gone and I am afraid to say I haven't been blogging much. I have been painting and snipping and gluing my way through the month. I am happy to say my inpiration has come back in full force and now my compaint...if I must complain, is that I have not enough time. The ideas seem to flood in ..especially late at night and I have to grab the notebook I keep by the bed and write them done. I also have to fight the urge to get up and start right away. I love to work in the wee hours...but the next day I don't funtion as well. I wish I didn't need sleep. Here is a snip of some of my work as late.

I carved the lock out of metal paper. I then rusted it and added a bit of paper and mounted it on a painted canvas.

I also scooped out the centre of a light bulb and put an entire scene inside using very long tweezers and loads of patience. I had glue everywhere so I became very frustrated with trying to clean the glass.

Sorry the photos are not the best

I also made a pink cupcake sculpture and added it to my latest canvas.
I just adore pink.. don't you? The cupcake is made of foam and texture paste.

Here is a close up of the cupcake.

This was alot of fun to make....made me hungry for real cupcakes.
I am looking forward to Febuary and the first sign of spring..I have had enough of the cold.

To Excited

I found this artist on Etsyhttp://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5238122 and couldn't wait to order something of hers. These purse/storage boxes are made of recycled records and just so stylish. Of course I went for the Madonna one and it came in the mail today. I was over the moon with excitement...ooooooooooh so cute.

I played this album in its day to death so naturally I had to take a picture with my original album plus a little extra flair...

Doing Something Foolish

I did something dumb....really dumb. So dumb I want to bury my head under a pillow and scream. I met a man....just a friend. Well I didn't really meet him. Hes an email pen pal sort of friend....Long story, I met him on a website, I was his customer. I say was because I don't think I can even buy from him again, thats how embarassed I am . It started out slowly. I bought a few things and because one was missing in the shipment...I sent him an email. He was very helpful and knowledgeable about the things I bought. We started to correspond. Every time I would buy something emails would exchange and the notes became friendly. Like a friend, I wrote back. We got into a few longer emails and sometimes friendly questions were asked. I would write back and being me....I perhaps got too excited and talked(wrote) too much. I think I stopped remembering that he was a client or I was his. I rambled on, excited about what I knew and what I had discovered about our mutual enjoyment....the reason I started talking to him in the first place. I sent him a link to something I had found that was based on our mutual enjoyment. Before we go on, get your mind out of the gutter...this is not a sexual thing, its a cultural thing. Well this morning after my last friendly email and link, I got a cold basic bill for what I owed. I knew right then and there the almighty dollar had ruled this relationship. This came after a full day of friendly emails back and forth. Then nothing, some how I knew after an hour from my last email that I shouldn't had sent it. I had gone to far and gotten no reply. Then when the cold bill came, I gotten my answer. I sent my payment pronto.

I feel sooooooooooooooooooo stupid. I am blaming it all on my blog. I got use to talking to know one in particular. The funny thing about computers and the web....you can just blab away and feel anonymous. I have a friend that blogs as well and we were discussing how it is such good therapy... its so much easier to talk to strangers then tell your friends whats happening. I don't even think my everyday friends I see read this. I never talk about it. What a fool I have been....why can't I be the bitter jaded old bitch I am in real life on my blog. Why do I ramble and express emotion to know one....or some guy who is trying to sell me something.

Have You Ever Been Tired

I am still getting over "Grief Day"...feeling good except I am tired. Tired, yet can't sleep...I want to fall asleep but I wake myself. Perhaps I am afraid to dream....sometimes dreams brings on another visit. I have had enough of his company. This reminds me of me some days.....

Bad Company

Yesterday my old friend grief decided to pay me a visit. Like an unwelcoming guest he made his presence known, walking in totally unannounced.I should have expected a visit. I had that feeling again, a sense of change.

Everyone has lost someone before. Loss is a part of life. Three years ago grief decided to move right in. He was never invited and for a short while I hardly knew he was there. My mind was only half working and trying to pin point why I felt so awful was the last of my worries. Soon grief reared his ugly head demanding more and more of my time. My life was spiraling out of control and I let grief take over. Like any bad room mate grief invaded my every space. I began to cry and isolate myself. I dropped friends and avoided phone calls. I drank and ate myself into a coma...anything to numb the pain. I tossed, I turfed, purging myself of memories and possessions. I shopped,I surfed, I wasted time and money. I slept, I was always so tired, my bed my best friend. I spent a lot of time doing singular things, yet I was never alone. Where ever I went grief followed. I hated everyone and everything. I became very very angry. I relied heavily on grief, always feeling his presence. Like a comforting blanket, grief was there to cover me from the world. Time marched on and grief was always a true friend.

Like any friendship, there were highs and lows. The old me was in there screaming to come out. Once I attempted a laugh, but that's when grief brought company home. Guilt and remorse showed up one day and made themselves comfortable. They hung about all day sponging off me and talking to grief behind my back. I soon felt like a third wheel. I saw the ugly side of grief and began to look at him differently. I no longer saw a friend. I no longer wanted to be with him all the time. I started to leave grief behind more and more. I began to see the sun, I could hear the birds sing. I could laugh again and began to move. I felt lighter and brighter.

Grief could sense me pull away. Like a jilted lover, grief tightened his hold. Sometimes I felt it, sometimes I chose to ignore it. Grief began to annoy me, pester me and made me feel desperate to be free. A confrontation was brewing, it was time for a change. One bright sunny day I sat grief down and said it was time to make a change in our living arrangements. I was grateful for all he had done but that I was going to continue on my journey with out him. He had been a grate sense of comfort but I was going to try it alone. Some guest never want to leave the party and like to cause a fuss. Grief was no different. He started to squawk in vain but could see my mind was made up. Soon he was gone but traces of him still exist. But my home felt bright and airy for the first time in a long time.

I have days when I have set backs, grief still has my address. He visits less and less. I never not remember, not a day goes by. Some memories bring smiles and can make you laugh. But then there are the dark and painful ones. They can trigger an attack. Grief will pop in and bring one of his nosey friends. His trusted side kick Why Me accompanies him alot. He comes in and puts his feet up and gives you a blank stare. Like a moody teenager he never really says much but gives plenty of attitude. He sulks and rolls his eyes and makes the room feel dark. I have spent some time with him before but I barely give him the time a day now.

When your a parent with grief there is a under lying sadness, there is always something missing. When you think about what might have been and what will never be, you become very weak. That's when grief will show up disguised as something else. You think you have a flu and begin to feel weak and cold. You can get a nasty headache that no aspirin will erase. Yesterday was my day. I was feel slightly achy on Friday, Flu like on Saturday. I thought I was just over tired. I thought all my renovations were catching up with me. I thought wrong.

I woke up and knew I was not alone. It was a dark day even though the sun was shining. Grief had showed up and I felt horrible, achy and sad. I made coffee and cried. I took a long time trying to get dressed for comfort. I ran through the grocery store only picking up what I needed and getting out as fast as possible.Grief was barking at my heels. I took the dog for a walk on a path I knew I would not see anyone. The sun was so warm and the bright fall colors made me annoyed. Grief was whispering in my ear. I was a black rain cloud, that threatened to ruin the day. My headache had started to blind me. I fell into my over sized bed and rested for a long while dozing and watching an old movie. I tried to ignore that bright ball of sun knocking at my window. Grief kept nattering away,I turned up the volume and drowned him out. Avoidance is good. Slowly I tuned him out. I didn't feel so soar anymore. I got out of bed and moved about doing normal things. Laundry, dishes, these things are good. Busy hands, quiet mind. I like the silence. A friend calls, I cry to her. She tries to understand, she listens. I am feeling so much better. Some where as the sun is going down I hear a door close off in the distance. Good bye grief...don't let the door hit you on your way out. Next time don't stay so long. I wish he would lose my address.

Kindred Spirits

Did you ever meet someone and think your looking in the mirror...not so much in looks but in likes and life experiences. It has just happened to me and it's really strange. I have been feeling that certain things were missing from my life and it sure would be nice to be able to share things with someone who gets it.....

She must have felt it too because she kept saying to me...were we separated at birth. She told her mother I was the Yin to her Yang...(never been called that). What crazy world is this when you think something and you put it out there and it comes true. She has had the same fears I have, and she gave me some good practical advice and shes just like me and you think... wow..maybe I can do it. She makes a lot of money, she believes in her work and does what has to be done and she has succeeded.

As an adult we have self doubt and trust issues....finding new friends are hard. Finding someone that can complete your sentences is impossible. We have guarded ourselves against life....we find it hard to believe in the possibilities of success. But if you believe in you, trust you will succeed.....know what you want and what you have to do to get there....you have to commit to you
